Looking Back

Now that the yomim noraim are over, and the fast has been completed, what are we going to do with ourselves now? Many of us may feel a sort of floating feeling. We've just poured out hearts out to HaKadosh Baruch Hu and confessed out mistakes and errs of the past year. We've, hopefully, begged for forgiveness and promised to do our best to make the coming year more productive then the last.
But what should be our first step, or one of the first steps we take?

My Rav said a very nice speech by Neila. He mentioned that after praying a whole day in shule and privately confessing before HaShem, neila is a time to prove that prayer and confession true and show that we're reading to start anew. After spending the whole day to bedeck ourselves in new, clean, clothing, we now much change the inside to match the outside.
But neila's over. Can we still do this now? YES! We've gotten rid of our smelly, old, and stained clothing. We've adorned ourselves in fresh, trim, garments. We now have the task to look inside that match the inside to the clothing.

This is no easy task. So how can we try to accomplish it without becoming too discouraged or overwhelmed?
What should we do?
My advice is nothing you've never heard before. But as Kohelet says, nothing's new under the sun, and as the Ramchal writes in Mesilos Yesharim, it is the information that everyone knows, that everyone takes for granted and forgets. So I will now repeat the advice that had been given to me countless times.
Look inside yourself, at your characteristics and your personality. This is the thing that makes you most different from everyone else who walks upon the Earth. Search within this special part of you and try to find ONE thing that needs to be changed.
Make this thing small. Chose davening shachrit, or having kavna during birchot hashachar. It doesn't need to be about teffilla, it could be saying hi to the first 3 people you meet in a day. But make sure to chose one thing.
Then work on this thing for a month. Try to make a chart and give yourself a check at the end of the day if you've completed the task that you've set for yourself. Then, at the end of a month, see how you've done.

You may need more then a month to perfect, or get good, at this act. If so, go for it for another month. When you feel confident with your behavior in this act, add another one. Then continue with your checking chart with these two acts on it. See how you do in both of these acts after a month.

You can continue this act for the whole year. It could be that you don't get past two changes, but that's two things different in yourself from this yom kippur to the next. And that makes this year a productive year, one that HaShem will be happy to have given you.

It could be that this approach doesn't work for everyone. I don't know, it's just a suggestion.

I wish everyone a chatima tova. We should all be kaim the mitzvout of sukkout, as much as we can be as women, and be matzliach in the coming year. Let's make is worth HaShem's while, kaveiachel.

MAZEL TOV!!

MAZEL TOV!! DEVORAH BRAUM IS A KALLAH!! ANYONE WHO KNOWS DETAILS THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!

Mashal to Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur

The Lesson Of A Ladder
By: Leah Rowner

I walked down the street
On a bright sunny day
Its breeze blowing my hair
As I went on my merry way

But I stopped short in my tracks
I blinked once I blinked twice
I looked again at the object before me
I couldn’t believe my eyes!

A ladder stood in the street
All straight and tall
The sky darkened
And rain started to fall

I looked at my surroundings
And I realized I was in an unfamiliar zone
I wasn’t near home and for all I knew
I was utterly alone

I tried to climb the ladder
I climbed up more and more
But I kept slipping down again
Because it started to pour!

By this time I was a mess
Tears streamed down like a river
The wind blew so strong
I began to shake and shiver

This is a Mashal to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
We take something to better ourselves for the year
We climb certain heights and we progress
But we slip and fall and get reduced to tears

Wash away those tears
And climb up the ladder up once more
Because Hashem knows you are trying
As you try to get closer to Him once more

Two Years Ago:

Two years ago we left for Israel, to spend a year in the walls of Pninim. I don't know if any of you are still in touch with our teachers, though I hope you all are some what, even remotely. I encourage ANYONE to contact ONE teacher and let them know how you're doing. It's one of the nicest things to do for a teacher. They spend so many hours into teaching so many students, and they remember who everyone is. It's a great thing to hear from a student, regardless of the amount of time that's passed since they've last seen her, and see where the student is.

So please contact one of them.

Additionally, I just wanted to remind you of those days, that year, and post some pictures from back then:

Yomei Nori'im.

Just a quick reminder, every day of the week in between the end of rosh hashana and yom kippur represent all the days of the weeks of the year. Ei: the monday = all the mondays, the tuesday = all the tuesdays of the year, and so on.
It's good to keep this in perspective and stay in best behavior.

I wanted to wish everyone a Shana Tova!!!!!!!!!!

Dearest fellow Pninimers,

How are you all doing? I am so excited for all the engagements. Now I have to figure out a way to come to all the Chatunahs!!!!!!!!! I wanted to give you all a bracha that all of you who have not found the right one should find your Prince Charming in the right time and place with a lot of clarity. May you have shalom bayit, simcha, hatzlacha, bracha, brioot and parnassa. May you have many happy, healthy, smart, G-d fearing, beautiful children. May Hashem help you to see the light in every situation and to pass all of your Nisyonot. May your families always be healthy and happy and have a lot of nachat from you always. May you all have a productive year and be sealed along with all the people you love in the book of life and happiness. May we shielded against all of the terrorists and may Mashiach bless us with himself now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to thank all of you for everything that you have given me. Every single one of you enhanced my year and made me grow in some way. I appreciate that very much. In addition, I would like to ask Mechila from all of you for anything that I did or said, intentionally or unintentionally that might have hurt you in any way. I am truly sorry. Furthermore, if I ever borrowed anything and did not return it, please forgive me for that as well. I also forgive all of you, not that you ever did anything. Anyways, I feel much better now that I have "spoken" to all of you. Shana Tova. By the way, just because we don't talk on the phone does not mean that I am not thinking about you.

Love always,
Devorah Braum Hekmatjah

A little Inspiration

Conflicts of life
By: Leah Rowner

His heart of stone
His mind uneasy
Staring at the blue sea
Day after day slowly passes
The sun sets, a moon so new
Inside the heart of a Jew
He thinks to himself what he should do

Hashem forgives us night or day
And helps us find the right way
But He lets us try each day anew
He ignites the flame in our hearts
Hashem, I need you

The road ahead so unclear
Voices he can hear
So many, ringing in his ears
One path is right, one is wrong
The journey seems so long
In the back of his mind
Plays a faraway song

So when you are unsure
In the paths of life
Not knowing where to turn
Having the power to grow and yearn
Just know through it all
In any situation or plight
Hashem is at your side

Reflections

Reflections
By: Leah Rowner

I look at the mirror
And what do I see?
It’s I I’m staring at
I’m staring at me

But is it me who I’m staring at
The outside of me reflects back
But I dig deeper looking on the inside
There is a lot in there that’s packed

But if without a mirror
There is a real person by your side
Would you judge her by her looks?
Or what’s real, what’s inside

That person may look different
But inside we are all the same
What’s real come from inside
It’s friendship you both want to claim

So next time there is another Jew
Now matter how big or small
By getting to know her
You’ll make her feel 10 feet tall

So go make a difference
By asking someone about their day
Because it’s you can change someone’s life
In a special way
